Soft Wash vs Pressure Wash: Which Is Right for Your Home?

March 8, 2026 · By Black Lab Power Wash

When homeowners in Spring Hill or Brooksville call us for exterior cleaning, one of the first questions we hear is: “Do you use pressure washing or soft washing?” The answer depends entirely on what surface we're cleaning. Here's the breakdown.

What Is Pressure Washing?

Pressure washing uses high-pressure water — typically 2,500 to 4,000 PSI — to blast away dirt, grime, mold, and stains from hard surfaces. The force of the water does most of the work.

Best for:

  • Concrete driveways and sidewalks
  • Paver patios and walkways
  • Pool decks (concrete)
  • Garage floors
  • Parking lots and commercial concrete

What Is Soft Washing?

Soft washing uses low-pressure water — similar to a garden hose — combined with specialized, biodegradable cleaning solutions. The chemicals do the heavy lifting, killing mold, algae, and bacteria at the root while the low-pressure rinse washes it all away.

Best for:

  • Roof shingles and tiles
  • Vinyl, stucco, and painted siding
  • Wood fences and decks
  • Screen enclosures and pool cages
  • Eaves, soffits, and fascia
  • Delicate or older surfaces

Why Does It Matter?

Using the wrong method can cause real damage. High pressure on roof shingles strips away protective granules and shortens your roof's life. High pressure on vinyl siding can crack it or force water behind it. High pressure on stucco can gouge and chip the surface.

On the flip side, using only soft wash on a heavily stained concrete driveway won't remove deep stains or embedded tire marks the way high-pressure cleaning can.

How Black Lab Power Wash Handles It

We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. When we arrive at your Spring Hill or Brooksville property, we assess every surface and choose the right method for each one. Most whole-home jobs involve both techniques — pressure washing the driveway and walkways while soft washing the house, roof, and screens.

That's the advantage of hiring a professional who knows the difference. You get a thorough clean without any risk of damage.
